Postercade was the brainchild of Perry Pfeffer and the business & domain names were founded in 2001. The name is a combination of the words Poster & Arcade, it was a place to have fun viewing and purchasing the seminal works of art created to advertise concerts, primarily from the 1960s.
"I bought my first posters when I wandered into Bill Graham's store, at 1333 Columbus Avenue in San Francisco on January 1, 1972. The date is cemented in my mind because it was the day after my first Grateful Dead/New Years Eve concert at Winterland. Needless to say, I was in a heightened state of awareness and like the concert, the posters displayed at the store proved to be an eye-opening and life-changing experience.
I collected seriously until 1989, buying primarily from Ben Friedman at Postermat and from ArtRock, when it was still located in Michigan.
In 2001, I decided to turn my hobby into my vocation and Postercade was born." (Perry Pfeffer)
